
Saturday Nature Adventure
After 26 years of success in our homeschool program, we are excited to offer Saturday Nature Adventures to a wider audience! This program focuses on guiding students through more challenging outdoor adventures and the acquisition of difficult, hands-on skills.
Key Program Components
1. Advanced Hands-On Skills
Students will get hands-on experience and begin to master these essential skills:
- Fire & Tools: Fire-by-friction, flint and steel, and whittling.
- Crafting: Basketry and fiber arts.
- Shelter & Survival: Essential shelter-building and survival techniques.
- Navigation: Practical orienteering skills.
2. The Young Naturalist's Journey
This is the start of a multi-year commitment to becoming a true "knowledge of place" expert. Students will begin to layer in:
- Natural history and understanding outdoor hazards.
- Wildlife tracking and observation.
- Identification of edible and medicinal plants.
- Bird language recognition.
Program Structure & Experience
Students keep a personal journal of all plants and animals encountered. Additionally, each semester includes 3 enriching field trips to locations that have unique ecosystems or something else unique to offer.
