Tim Dempsey

Director of Athletic Fitness

Tim came to the Riekes Center in 2005 as a Strength Coach and Personal Trainer, and he was promoted into the position of Athletic Fitness Director in 2012. In addition to developing the Riekes Center AF staff, he is responsible for overseeing RISE-UP and SMART, and he has direct coaching responsibilities for Pinnacle, a full slate of personal training students, and also trains students that are in the Adaptive and Paralympic programs. Tim’s diverse experiences have led him to develop an innovative training style that has a special emphasis on injury prevention and reduction of chronic pain. He is one of the few trainers on the West Coast that has been certified in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization by the world renowned Prague (Czech Republic) Institute of Rehabilitation (click here for a list of DNS Certified Exercise Trainers).

Tim’s training expertise is sought outside of the Riekes Center, both in English and Spanish. He has been the featured trainer for the training tip of the week on the Cal High Sports Bay Area television show the past several years; presented at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs in 2012 and 2013; at a national coaching conference in the Mexican Olympic Village in Mexico City; was filmed for a Spanish language speed training video series; and he is a regular contributor for the Spanish language coaching website “Coaches Digitales” that is used for coaches education throughout Mexico, Panama, Argentina, and Colombia.

Tim is in the unique position of having been a coach and athlete at the high school, college, and masters level, and also as a parent. His oldest daughter, Rosario was a high school swimmer and cross country runner, and his youngest daughter, Becky is active in the youth sports scene.
