Zen was born in Truro, England on June 15th, 1982. His family moved to the California bay area when he was 13 where he spent most of his teenage years. Zen was raised as a homeschooler and his interest in music - and specifically playing in a band - began at "Not Back To School Camp", a summer camp for homeschoolers. Upon returning home he started attending weekly jam nights at the Riekes Center at age 16 with other homeschoolers from the community. Beginning on bass he soon moved to taking guitar lessons at the Center, studying music theory at Foothill community college and formed his own band with fellow Riekes students Matt Henson and Spike.
Since those days Zen has logged considerable hours playing in local bay area bands, performed in numerous musical theatre productions, been on tour twice and spent a year in Los Angeles attending the Musicians Institute where he completed the GIT (Guitar Institute of Technology) program.
Zen's main musicial interests are song writing, music theory, composition and performance. He also enjoys supporting local and indie music, staffing at the yearly 'Not Back To School Camp' in Oregon for homeschoolers, being involved politcs and social activism, travelling and performing with his current band (and love) - "Please Do Not Fight" - for which he is the primary singer/song-writer.
